Eddy J. Sedeño III, DMD, MS
Dr. Eddy Sedeño was born and raised in Miami Lakes, FL. He attended Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School and Monsignor Edward Pace High School. He then earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Florida, where he also obtained his dental training. As an undergraduate student, Dr. Sedeño was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and served as the Risk Management Officer. In dental school he won the Orthodontics Clinical Achievement Award and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon. He continued on the University of Florida for his orthodontic training and Masters in Dental Sciences. Dr. Sedeño is a specialist in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics, with a strong interest in technology and clear aligner treatment. While in residency his Master’s thesis focused on treatment with Invisalign, and he co-authored the Orthodontics chapter in the Dental Reference Manual. He was selected as an Emerging Leader for the AAO and attended the AAO Political Advocacy Conference in Washington DC at Capitol Hill to lobby for positive changes to legislation to benefit orthodontic patients. He has earned several leadership and professionalism awards. Dr. Sedeño is an American Board of Orthodontics Board Certified Orthodontist, a certification only 1 in 3 Orthodontists have. He is a Courtesy Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida Department of Orthodontics and Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Sciences in Gainesville and Hialeah. He is also a member of the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce. His interests include working with computers, new technology, and developing more efficient systems for quality patient care. While not in the office, his hobbies include boating, fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling, as well as skiing and snowboarding (all of which he does not get to do often enough). His family and the profession are what he values most of all.
Dr. Melissa Alfonso Sedeño, DMD, MS
Dr. Melissa Alfonso Sedeño was born and raised in Miami. She attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate, dental and orthodontics degrees. Dr. Alfonso served as the President of her sorority Phi Mu Fraternity. While in dental school, she was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon and won several awards including the Alpha Omega Award for Scholarship for graduating at the top of her class. During residency she served as the Chief Resident. Her research focused on accelerating orthodontic tooth movement, for which she won the AAO Charley Schultz Resident Scholar Award. Dr. Alfonso is an American Board of Orthodontics Board Certified Orthodontist, a certification only 1 in 3 Orthodontists have. Dr. Alfonso is a participant in the Leadership Program for the Southern Association of Orthodontics, is an Editor for the American Association of Orthodontists Practice Management Bulletin, and is on the Board of the South Florida Academy of Orthodontists. She is also actively involved in organized dentistry as a Delegate for the South Florida District Dental Association to the Florida Dental Association. Outside of orthodontics, Dr. Alfonso enjoys spending time with their family, friends, and their shih tzu- maltese, Hawley, appropriately named after the retainer. Her hobbies include reading a good book, traveling to new places, and being near the ocean.
